FAQs

Kimberly Stephan Tate studied journalism in college before breaking into corporate America during the technology boom, where she began her career with a Fortune 50 technology company. In that role, she was responsible for hiring thousands of employees, assisting with recruiting, leading interviews, making hiring decisions, and onboarding new employees.

Over the course of her career, Kimberly advanced into senior leadership roles in human resources and recruiting. She later became an independent diversity, equity, and inclusion consultant, partnering with hundreds of companies to refine their hiring strategies. Through this work, she gained deep expertise in how organizations across industries — including science, academia, sales, technology, communications, marketing, and automotive — approach talent acquisition.

Kimberly has a strong command of applicant tracking systems (ATS) and understands how artificial intelligence is shaping the future of hiring. She is also highly attuned to how bias influences recruitment, particularly when multiple aspects of a candidate’s identity intersect within the hiring process.

Our process begins with a 60–90 minute deep-dive session where we uncover the full scope of your skills, experience, and accomplishments. During this time, you’ll also receive valuable insights to help you cut through the complexity of the job search and set yourself up for success.

Within 48–72 hours of our session, you will typically receive your first draft résumé. We’ll then spend a few days fine-tuning and finalizing it together. From there, we’ll complete your LinkedIn profile start to finish. In most cases, the entire process is completed in less than a week.

When it comes to securing employment, the timeline varies based on your level of commitment to the process and how consistently you follow the steps. Statistically, job seekers who rely only on job boards and online applications take, on average, over a year to land a position. By contrast, Tate of Mind clients who fully engage in the outlined process typically complete the hiring process — from applications to interviews to offers — within 8 to 12 weeks.

While results vary, some clients have secured roles in as little as two weeks, while those in highly specialized fields may take up to six months. Ultimately, your timeline will be influenced by the effort and consistency you bring to the process.

Thoroughness and detail are at the heart of the Tate of Mind experience. If we’ve worked together before, we do offer refresh services — but because of how closely résumés and LinkedIn profiles work together, we handle them as a paired service.

Why Both Matter

LinkedIn is as important as (if not more important than) your résumé. Recruiters, hiring managers, and even potential clients often check your LinkedIn profile first.

• For that reason, we do not refresh résumés without also updating LinkedIn, and we generally do not update LinkedIn without at least creating a base résumé to ensure we have a complete, accurate picture of your professional portfolio.

What You Can Expect

Résumé Refresh (Returning Clients): Targeted updates, modern formatting, ATS optimization, and tightened achievements.

LinkedIn Refresh: Optimized headline, About section, and Experience entries with recruiter-friendly keywords, plus skills and accomplishments that showcase your brand.

Discounted alumni pricing and expedited turnaround options are available if you need updates quickly.

Whether you’re just starting out or have years of leadership experience, we’ll extract the right details, quantify your impact, and ensure you present a consistent, polished brand across both platforms.

We love this question, because the truth is — résumé writing is not just about putting words on a page.

Most résumés we see — and we’ve reviewed tens of thousands — are poorly written, poorly formatted, and completely ineffective. People spend surprisingly little time on their résumé, and it shows. If you feed a résumé with no real accomplishments or details into AI, the output will always be “garbage in, garbage out.”

Here’s why:

AI is a writing tool, not a strategy tool. It doesn’t know résumé best practices, applicant tracking systems (ATS), or hiring psychology. We regularly see AI-written résumés that are five pages long, filled with fluff, and look like they were written at a grade school level.

Templates are dangerous. They look beautiful but are often an ATS nightmare — the formatting alone can get your résumé automatically rejected before a human ever sees it.

When you work with Tate of Mind, you’re not just getting words on a page. You’re getting:

Expert formatting to make sure your résumé actually passes ATS filters.

Tailored wordsmithing that makes your accomplishments clear, polished, and powerful.

Personal branding across both résumé and LinkedIn so you stand out in your industry.

Job search strategy coaching — where to look, who to talk to, and what steps to take to cut your job search time in half.

Interview prep and salary negotiation guidance so you land the role you want with the compensation you deserve.

Confidence building — because the way you present yourself on paper translates into how you present yourself in interviews.

Hiring Tate of Mind means hiring a partner who understands the entire hiring process from the inside out. Our clients consistently land jobs faster, earn more money, and feel more confident than they ever would with a template or AI.

At Tate of Mind Consulting, we meet you exactly where you are. That means giving you the services you actually need — not overwhelming you with things you don’t. Every client’s experience is customized.

Often, people come to us thinking they just need a résumé, but what they really need is a job search strategy. They’ve been applying endlessly, getting no results, and feeling stuck. That’s where coaching comes in.
